November Assembly, an Event for Grade 5
Assemblies are monthly gatherings for students of the same grade level.
During the first week of every month, an assembly takes place in the
elementary department auditorium, which has been the place where
students enjoy sharing their ideas about local and global events. On
November 8, Lebanon was the BIG concept. Fostering a community sense on
the level of learners as well as an attitude of appreciation towards our
country Lebanon was intended during the month of November, the month of
our Independence Day. Fifth graders decided to be the heroes of this
monthly occasion, so it was their inquiry about Lebanon regarding how
the world works, who we are, where we are in time and place, how we
organize ourselves, how we share the planet, and how we express
ourselves. As learner observers, teachers were able to see the students’
communication skills on action identifying areas of strengths and
weaknesses. They unlocked their potentials and shared the various and
interesting issues, they have prepared. Most importantly, the assembly
has been looked upon as a learning experience occurring by the end of a
unit of inquiry entitled “Organized Events”. In addition, the assembly
was highly interactive for all fifth graders were able to provide
feedback commenting on the demonstration of the IB learner profile
attributes and attitudes. The elementary school director ended up the
assembly with a connection to the school vision through which we
describe the future generation we are working to generate.
