Eco-warriors
In the unit “The Eco-citizen”, Grade 4 students were active learners
during the past six weeks when they conducted a series of researches on
the different types of ecosystems, human activities, their impact on the
balance of the ecosystem, and how to be an eco-citizen. After studying
an endangered animal according to the lines of inquiry and key concepts,
the learners made a poster presenting why this animal is endangered and
suggested a solution showing responsibility to be caring citizens. They
made use of the key expression learnt in the sequence of this unit of
inquiry to widen their imagination and knowledge. Besides, they
comprehended the various concepts related to the unit of inquiry using
magnificent research skills. Learners were able to apply the skill of
collecting relevant data when they visited the library and picked useful
resources. They mentioned the reasons why this animal was endangered and
the ways to prevent its endangerment. Their responsibility occurred when
they suggested raising money to save those animals. They mentioned the
importance of the natural reserve because it provides shelter and food
for animals and plants. They showed admirable respect to the environment
and appreciation to its components. Besides, they inquired into the
nature of the self and became more reflective and were able to recognize
how human affects the environment. This inquiry outcome was shown in
their ability to take decisions and suggest reasons for saving the
environment. Understanding how we can share the planet enabled them to
relate how we should share all the resources and have great relationship
among each others.
