Student-Led
Conference 2011
On the twenty forth of December 2011, our learners were
provided with the opportunity to share their learning process and
academic progress with their parents by leading their own conferences.
Learners have set short term goals and decided on strategies to achieve
their target, revealing responsibility for their own learning and
consciousness towards their strengths and weaknesses. Together, the
learner, teacher(s), and parents determined what each will do to help
the learner move closer towards targeted educational goal(s).
Using the portfolio, learners independently reported the level of
performance during the first unit of inquiry by explaining their
knowledge and understanding of the concepts, their application of
transdisciplinary skills, their demonstration of values and attitudes,
and their involvement in self-initiated actions and inquiries, which
altogether fostered the development of certain attributes of their IB
Learner Profile.
Since our learners have learned how to prepare for and conduct a
student-led conference, parents may build on this approach by
encouraging their children to conduct conferences at home and on regular
basis.
